Cartoons

I have always loved and been comforted by cartoons and comics. At one point in my childhood I carried a Garfield book with me at all times like a security blanket, in case I started feeling anxious and needed a dose of gentle humor. As an adult, I’ve come to respect and appreciate the power of cartoons (and the profundity of humor, generally) even more. Some of my cartoonist idols include Tim Kreider and Julia Gootzeit.

The Enemy Within

The Enemy Within was inspired by Tim Kreider’s My Worst Enemy—Past Tim. I found the concept of a past self ruining the life of one’s current self completely brilliant and relatable. Unlike Kreider, my struggle has been the anticipatory terror I feel towards my future wiser, harsher self, who will invariably look back at my current efforts with contempt.
